The Main Thing About Time Management, or How to Get More Done

Post by jisansorkar12 »

Everyone and their dog talks about time management. There are a lot of different methods that help you plan your time and be more productive. Sometimes it seems like there are too many of them, and it’s unclear how to figure them out and find the best self-organization strategy. Therefore, in today’s article, we will only discuss the most important things you need to know about time management.

The last three years have convinced us that planning for the long turkey whatsapp list term is pointless. Now it is not the one who thinks things through for a long time who survives, but the one who knows how to prioritize things, predict and make quick decisions.

Until the 2010s, the world lived by the VUCA concept. This acronym stands for “volatility, uncertainty, complexity, ambiguity.” According to this concept, to get a good result, you need to work hard — take on as many tasks as possible and try to jump above your head. The world is complex and multidimensional, and outstanding results require outstanding efforts.

With the development of information technology, the world began to change, and COVID-19 finally finished it off. In 2016, American futurologist Jame Cascio even came up with a new concept - the BANI world, which stands for "fragile, anxious, nonlinear, incomprehensible world." Everything is logical: now business processes and strategies that have been built for years can collapse like a house of cards at any moment.

Therefore, in such a world, time becomes a golden resource, and the ability to manage it correctly is the most important skill. After all, when everything around is so nonlinear and fragile, the main thing is not to lose concentration and remain productive. And time management helps us with this.

Why should a manager, for example, integrate time management into his life ?

Firstly, to simply improve the quality of your work. On the one hand, doing everything in a row is a normal option, familiar to most. But in this case, there is a risk of forgetting about really important tasks, and in general, the work is slow and inefficient. It is better to build your schedule consciously, highlighting in it what will bring the greatest benefit.
Secondly, to reduce stress levels. Most often, managers have few small tasks that can be completed during the day and forget about work. Usually, these are large projects and long tasks that take a lot of time. Because of this, overtime and burnout occur, and you have to sit up all night finishing projects. Time management helps not to stretch the boundaries of the working day and get rid of overtime.
Thirdly, to synchronize the whole team. Time management is not only self-organization, but also prioritization of task lists of different employees and departments, which is useful for managing the overall work process.
The main principles of time management
Principle 1: set specific goals. The biggest pain point that people start trying time management is lack of motivation and procrastination. You can want to do something as much as you want, but never get around to it. Therefore, before starting a new task or an important project, you need to describe this task in detail: add all the input data, understand the goal and objectives. The more specifics, the higher the probability of achieving the desired result.

You've probably heard about smart goal setting, and if you haven't, I'll tell you about it now. In general, there are two concepts: a goal and a dream, and they are completely different. A dream is a desire that would be great to achieve, but a goal is a dream that has been given specifics. A dream can remain a dream until you turn it into a goal. That's why they came up with the SMART formula.

The essence of this formula is to add as much specificity to any goal as possible: expected result, exact time, probability of success. In general, to make an initial plan that will help move from the level of "I would like to do this" to the level of "I will do it, and I even know how."

Principle 2: Plan ahead. There are several levels of planning - global, long-term and short-term. Ideally, each level should be synchronized.

First, create a global plan for several years, where you describe your goals for the future.
Then put together a long-term plan that will help implement the global one.
And then make a short-term plan lasting up to six months. At the same time, it should naturally be part of your long-term plan.
There are several formats of short-term planning. Monthly - when plans are made for a month, for example, taking into account existing KPIs. Then weekly planning. And the shortest-term planning is a daily schedule.
