Roberto Angulo, Director of Products and Innovation at Tedexis, attended CTIA 2013 and shares his thoughts with our readers:
This year, CTIA Wireless was held in Las Vegas, a destination that is always very interesting to visit.
Very interesting topics were addressed during the event, especially in 3 specific topics: Mobile Payments, Machine to Machine Communications or M2M and MHealth. In the latter, the advances and contributions of mobile technology have been colossal for the advancement of mobile or remote medicine. In fact, large health companies are behind these great advances closely related to M2M solutions. ig database The most interesting demos on this topic are related to the measurement equipment that patients carry and how they communicate directly with the doctors' monitoring systems. A specific case refers to cardiac and diabetic patients to improve their quality of life.
Another of the areas highlighted at CTIA Wireless was accessories for terminals, with a large presence of companies offering entertainment-oriented products, mainly headphones and wireless speakers. There was a very interesting exhibition and competition of the latter, including phone protectors, screen protectors, among other things.
After 3 years without attending, we went with great expectations given the loss of shine of the event in previous years and the concentration of the industry in the Mobile World Congress that takes place in Barcelona, Spain. This year was no exception and the event, although large in size, did not have the shine of past editions. We noticed the absence of actors present in other editions such as the operators and the major brands that manufacture terminals. Only Telefónica and NTT Docomo (with operations in early stages in the US) were present. SAMSUNG was the only manufacturer attending.
We could say that the impact of the economic situation in the United States has been felt in the mobile industry in that country. The organizing committee of this event announced during CTIA the convergence of several events and a new date, the last quarter of 2014, in order to give more interest to the event.
My recommendation to the event's organizing committee is to generate transformation. The Mobile World Congress displaced the CTIA in mobile advances and in this sense, the latter must direct the new direction of this important event that I feel will give us interesting surprises in the years to come. Pay attention to its development.
