Biogas a commitment to the circular economy and environmental protection

Post by pappu888 »

Biogas is a renewable energy , very similar to fossil natural gas, with the difference that it is generated from biomass, better known as organic waste. Biogas is composed of more than 90% methane and the other 10% consists of carbon dioxide, water and other impurities. The level of impurities will also determine the degree of pollution that will be produced by the use of the generated biogas: the more impurities, the more polluting.

This type of gas is the future and is already powering entire fleets founder email lists throughout Europe. Are you going to let yours not be part of this sustainable revolution?

Advantages of biogas :

It is virtually identical to fossil natural gas, making it easy to transport and use directly by the current natural gas network.
It can be compressed and stored directly, just like natural gas. It is compatible with the current gas network, no need to adapt it.
It is cleaner than any other fossil fuel.
It is renewable, as we have seen.

Biogas in Europe and Spain

According to the EurObserv'ER barometer (2019 data), in recent years the production and consumption of biogas has increased considerably, up to almost 50%, in the European mobility sector. On the contrary, the use of biomethane has decreased in the field of electricity production.

As in other areas of the energy sector, biogas is subject to technological innovations that allow it to continue developing its potential . Biogas production, especially in landfills, has stagnated at the European level due to the lack of technological tools that speed up the production of this resource, and make it more effective.

In Europe, the countries that are leading the way in terms of landfill biogas production are France and England, so the new initiative that we are working on at Naturgy, to launch the first Spanish installation of biogas from landfill, will provide an injection of 12 GWh/year of biomethane into the gas distribution network.

The new plant will be located next to the Elena landfill, in the Parc Tecnològic de L'Alba in Cerdanyola del Vallès (Barcelona) . This new installation will entail an investment of 2.2 million euros, and will produce the equivalent gas to supply 3,400 homes per year. With the approval of this new project, at Naturgy we continue to move forward with our commitment to the energy transition and the circular economy, while positioning ourselves at the forefront of innovation to be able to develop this significant energy component.

At Naturgy we have been working for years to have a strong gas distribution network , so through this new renewable gas installation, we will recover the biogas produced in landfills, thereby making considerable use of energy. The production and injection of renewable gases into the network will bring extensive benefits for all parties involved.
