When determining what data you need, it is important to put the customer first. Make sure you know who your customer is, what their function is and what is important to them. In addition, you will need to know what you think is important for your customer to know about you and which resources and campaigns you want to use yourself.

The most well-known ways of collecting data are on the one hand via tools such as Google Analytics, with which you learn the basics about your website. On the other hand via forms on your website, such as a registration for your newsletter or ordering a product.
It is important to make it as easy as possible for the customer. Suppose you want to obtain more data than just an email address for sending the newsletter. Make sure you create a form with two steps in which you first ask for the email address and in the second step for the other data. If the customer does not complete the process, you still have the email address.
