The easiest way to think about it is in physical terms. Search engine methods are based roughly on the concept of a library card catalog, and so we can imagine Google classifying pages like a library, using the Dewey Decimal System to classify books. You could have a book categorized as Romance, subcategory Gothic Romance. But you wouldn’t be china number data to classify it as Romance and Horror, even though it could be related to both titles. You can’t have the same physical book on 2 different shelves in 2 different sections of the library. Keyword targeting works the same way: 1 main topic per page.
