The role of ANA
Like other agencies, ANA has administrative and financial autonomy. Created by the enactment of Law 9.984/2000 , the regulatory agency is responsible, at the federal level, for implementing the National Water Resources Policy and the National Water Resources Management System, as provided for by Law 9.433/1997 , known as the Water Law.
regulate the use of water resources, rivers and lakes in Union domains;
ensure the safety of dams;
establish reference standards for the regulation of basic qatar mobile database sanitation public services;
provision of public irrigation and raw water supply services.
Furthermore, ANA is also responsible for working in conjunction with government sectors and spheres to produce and disseminate information and implement standards that ensure the right to water use, minimizing the effects of critical events such as droughts and floods. The agency's entire performance aims to ensure the country's water security to enable sustainable development.
Thus, ANA's activities can be divided into three main areas:
Regulation
One of the most important aspects of the agency's operation concerns regulation. This is because ANA is responsible for regulating how much raw water can be withdrawn.
For an organization to be able to extract water from a river for treatment and distribution, for example, a concession is required. In this sense, in addition to regulating, ANA plays a fundamental role in supervising activities, in order to ensure compliance with standards and laws.
