10. Open Source Model
Firefox is one of the most successful examples of open source. The software is free to download, free to use, and open to contributions from the worldwide community. Because it is free and many people contribute to it, it spreads quickly and usually gets a lot of (free) resources to improve the software. The business model behind Firefox is to generate royalties and partnerships with search engines.
Open source itself is not necessarily a business model, because amazon database you can't necessarily achieve a sustainable business model with software. Red Hat gives away its Linux distribution for free, and then makes money from training, services, and software hosting.
