The core of click-to-chat is a specific URL structure:
Where <number> is a full phone number in international format (e.g., 88017XXXXXXXX for a Bangladeshi number). Omit any zeros, dashes, plus signs, or brackets when adding the number in the URL.
You can also include a pre-filled message that will automatically appear in the chat text field:
Where <urlencodedtext> is your whatsapp number list pre-filled message. Spaces and special characters in the message need to be URL-encoded. For example, a space becomes %20.
Examples for Bangladesh (assuming local Sherpur context):
Let's say your business WhatsApp number is +8801712345678.
Simple Click-to-Chat Link:
(When clicked, this opens a chat with your business number.)
Click-to-Chat Link with a Pre-filled Message:
Let's say you want the message to be "Hi, I'd like to inquire about your products."
The message needs to be URL-encoded: "Hi,%20I'd%20like%20to%20inquire%20about%20your%20products."
The full link would be: Hi,%20I'd%20like%20to%20inquire%20about%20your%20products. (When clicked, this opens a chat with your number, and "Hi, I'd like to inquire about your products." appears in the text input field.)
