Pingdom Website Speed Test

Post by mstlucky8072 »

The Pingdom tool , in addition to a list of guidelines and elements that affect the page load time, allows you to choose the location of the server from which the test is to be performed. It is obvious that we should choose the closest to our hosting or we should be guided by the location of potential users of the page.

In the report, we can see a percentage breakdown of the type and weight of the loaded resources, as well as the number of resources divided by their type, e.g. images, scripts, HTML, CSS, fonts. Here too, we have a chart with a list of requested resources, similar to the one from the GTmetrix tool.

Lighthouse
This is also a Google tool that we can use to audit a website . It is worth mentioning at the outset that GPSI largely uses the Light House engine during analysis. We can perform the test in a simple way. All we need to do is open the developer tools in Chrome (in the so-called devtools) and go to the audit tab. An alternative solution is to install the LightHouse plugin in the browser.

The audit is divided into 5 segments. Each segment contains personalized guidelines and a separate rating on a scale of 0 to 100.

If you want to learn more about DevTools and the LightHouse audit, the ability to check the HTTP/2 protocol, which I talk about below, and much more, I refer you to the article: Website Analysis with DevTools .

Google Analytics
If we have implemented a tracking tag in the code of the page, we can analyze the loading speed of visited pages. To do this, go to the Behavior -> Site Speed tab, where we can see, for example, the loading time of individual web pages or the guidelines from the Google PageSpeed Insights tool for each of them.

Page Load Speed in Google Analytics

In Google Analytics, we can easily divide the results of the loading speed of the website by device by adding the device category as the primary dimension. This will allow us to separately verify the page speed for mobile devices, tablets and computers.

Other speed analysis tools:
DNSpref - tests DNS provider performance .
WebPageTest - an advanced test that takes much longer - The tool skype database analyzes the page several times, averages the result and presents a large amount of information.

Google Mobile Speed Test - focused on usability analysis for mobile devices.

Web.dev - a tool similar to and based on Lighthouse - Presents test results in a slightly different form.
