Are Social Signals Important for SEO?
Everything points to yes. Since their appearance, social networks have been a very important channel for connecting companies and customers, mainly because these channels have what merchants have wanted for years: real-time and direct contact with customers and potential customers.
Over time, they have taken up more space in the communication strategies of brands and now, without fear of being wrong, they are showing signs that they have a leading role when it comes to positioning a website.
Yes, there are many experts who might not agree with my statements, because in fact, Google itself has taken a position on the matter.
Matt Cutts clearly sets out a position regarding the question that many SEO Masters have asked themselves, and also explains the reasons why Google does not consider social signals as an important factor for ranking.
A matter that becomes even more confusing, when in a video published in 2010 Matt gives an affirmative answer to the same question:
But when did Google reveal its last card up its sleeve? Never!
Apart from the 200 aspects of positioning in search engines that we all know and that have been revealed by Google hundreds of times, there are no official sources on the giant's channels that reveal the true aspects of positioning in this important search engine.
It's always been about great experiments that work and have helped college and universities email list thousands of websites rank.
So, just because Google has repeatedly said NO as an answer to the incessant question that those of us who work daily to position ourselves ask ourselves, does not mean that social signals are not actually a determining factor for ranking.
And even more so when, for example, other search engines, such as Bing, determine social signals as an important factor for ranking, a search engine that also had a 24% share in the United States in 2017.
So, are social signals a determining factor for SEO or not? Everything points to yes. But first, let's review the term.
You could say that social signals are the engagement that your audience shows with your brand or content on social media. Among all the marketing metrics you can manage, you should pay special attention to Likes, Comments, Retweets (in the case of Twitter), Pins (in the case of Pinterest), and ultimately any indication that shows interactions that increase the level of engagement of your audience with your business.
